The art classes at MOA Art Kids provide a unique academic art education tailored to young artists aged 6 to 16. Our programs are designed to prepare students for advanced studies in the arts, art competitions, and future careers in the creative industry.

Our curriculum emphasizes preparation for advanced academic learning and supports the creation of professional portfolios for higher education opportunities.

Our classes welcome students of all skill levels—no prior experience is necessary. To ensure an effective and enjoyable learning experience, students are grouped by age, skill level, and interests.

1. PAINTING – Beginner

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

Unleash your creativity in this fun and interactive painting class designed for young artists! Kids will explore the fundamentals of painting using acrylics and watercolors. Through engaging and age-appropriate activities, children will learn essential skills such as color mixing, brush techniques, perspective, and the study of light and shadow. Each week builds on foundational techniques, encouraging creativity and self-expression. Projects will range from still life to landscapes, animals, and portraits, culminating in a personal-choice project that showcases each student’s growth and unique artistic voice. This beginner-friendly course will prepare the students for more advanced studies in the fine arts and the specialized courses MOA Art Kids offers.

2. PAINTING – Intermediate

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

This intermediate course is designed for artists with prior experience in watercolor and acrylic painting. It provides an in-depth exploration of advanced techniques, including color composition, texture, anatomy, proportion, form, value, and color theory.

Students will study color perspective, contrast, and depth of field through both theoretical lessons and advanced projects. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between light and shadow in complex compositions. The course also includes an in-depth study of the 7 Color Contrasts by Johannes Itten, the pioneer of contemporary color theory.

Materials for the Painting class:

  • Acrylic paints (basic and extended palette)
  • Watercolor paints
  • Brushes (varied sizes for details and washes)
  • Canvas, watercolor paper, and sketch pads
  • Palettes, water jars, masking tape

Note: Students are welcome to bring their own art supplies or purchase them directly from the studio at the start of the course.

3. DRAWING – Beginner

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

Welcome to the world of drawing! This course is designed for young artists who are just starting their creative journey. Through engaging activities, kids will learn the fundamentals of drawing, including the principles of design, shape and form, light and shadow, perspective, and basic rendering techniques. Each week will focus on a specific topic and include fun, hands-on drawing exercises such as still life compositions, animal sketches, character creation, portrait studies, landscapes, and a personal choice project. This class is a prerequisite for the more advanced drawing course and the specialized programs at MOA Art Kids. 

4. DRAWING – Intermediate

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

This Intermediate drawing course is designed for kids with prior drawing experience who are ready to take their skills to the next level. Focusing on advanced principles of drawing, the course will cover realistic rendering, fine detailing techniques, and mastering the complexities of perspective. Students will explore 2- and 3-point perspective, shadow construction from multiple light sources, and dynamic compositions. By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of realistic and constructive drawing and will master the tools to create complex, polished artwork for their portfolio.

Materials for the Drawing class:

  • Regular lead pencils HB, B2-B12
  • Kneadable eraser, Regular vinal eraser
  • Drawing pad 9”x12”
  • Sketch paper
  • Ruler
  • Sharpies

5. DIGITAL ART – Beginner

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

Dive into the exciting world of digital art! This beginner Digital Art course introduces kids to the fundamentals of digital painting using Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn to navigate the software, master essential tools, and apply professional techniques to bring their creative ideas to life. Through hands-on projects, they will create characters, landscapes, and abstract artworks, exploring a variety of brushes, textures, and filters. Perfect for young artists eager to explore technology and art, this course builds foundational skills while encouraging creativity and fun.

Requirements:

  • A personal laptop with Adobe Photoshop installed (free trial or licensed version).
  • A drawing tablet (e.g., Wacom, Huion, or similar).
  • Computer mouse
  • USB memory stick
     

Note: Students are required to bring their own equipment.

6. DIGITAL ART – Intermediate

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

This exciting intermediate Digital Art program is designed for kids with prior experience in digital art who want to push their skills to new heights. Students will dive into advanced professional techniques used in the animation and game industries, honing their craft with expert-level assignments and projects.

We’ll focus on professional file and layer management to industry standards, allowing students to work efficiently and present their art like a pro. Throughout the course, we will explore layout design, composition principles, and innovative rendering techniques inspired by favorite movies and games. Students will master adjustment layers, masking, and special effects to create breathtaking scenes, whether from fantasy worlds, traditional landscapes, or dynamic character designs. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio-ready collection of stunning digital artwork.

Note: Students are required to bring their own equipment.

7. PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

This comprehensive program is designed for artists aspiring to showcase their best work in art competitions, applications to specialized schools, colleges, and universities, or for job applications. Tailored for individuals at various stages of their artistic journey, the course provides professional feedback and in-depth critique of existing personal work.

Participants will receive a personalized assessment of their current skill level and goals, enabling them to refine their strengths and address areas for improvement. Through a combination of guided instruction and strategic planning, students will develop a cohesive and compelling portfolio that highlights their unique artistic voice.

The program emphasizes both traditional and digital art techniques, equipping students to adapt to a variety of creative industries and academic demands. By the end of the course, participants will have a polished portfolio, enhanced confidence in their artistic abilities, and the essential tools to achieve their career goals.

8. HOMEWORK CLUB

1 hour per session - $20.00 per class

The Homework Club is a supportive and flexible program designed to assist students with their ongoing art projects, personal artistic endeavors, and catching up on missed coursework. Whether you’re working on school assignments or pursuing your own creative passions, this program offers a warm and welcoming environment where students can receive personalized guidance.

This program also welcomes drop-in students for trial classes.

Led by professional instructors, the Homework Club provides one-on-one support across various art disciplines, ensuring students stay on track and achieve the best possible results. Ideal for those needing help with specific projects, requests, or skills, the Homework Club is the perfect space to nurture creativity and complete art work on time.

The materials for the Homework Club vary based on each student’s project. Students are responsible for bringing the art supplies needed for their specific work. For first-time trial classes with drop-in students, the studio will provide project-based art supplies.
